Windermere campsite joins national 'elite of excellence'

After beating over 100 other holiday parks in Lakeland to take the top spot in the Cumbria Tourism Awards last year, MMM Premier Park, Park Cliffe, has just gone one better.

In the recent national "VisitEngland Awards for Excellence", it joined an elite of just five holiday parks judged to be the best of over two thousand park businesses in the country.

Family-owned Park Cliffe received a "highly commended" accolade in the national finals of the 2012 VisitEngland competition held in Leicester. Stepping forward to receive the award were Susan Dickson and her husband Derek who own the 25-acre holiday park located on the eastern shores of Windermere.

Their park attracts visitors from across the UK and overseas, and provides pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, plus camping pods and luxury holiday homes to hire and buy. For Susan and Derek, the award crowns their fifth year as owners of the business.

Since taking the park over from Susan's parents in 2007, the couple have invested much time and energy into creating a first-class holiday environment for guests. Facilities include a refurbished restaurant specialising in Cumbria cuisine, luxury shower facilities with private bathrooms, and children's play area.

As part of the judging process for the Cumbria Tourism and VisitEngland awards, the park was "mystery shopped" by anonymous guests acting for the judging panel. It earned glowing commendations not just for the excellence of the surroundings, but also for its staff's friendliness, caring attitude, and desire to help guests. Park Cliffe is also a favourite of TV botanist David Bellamy who this year presented it with his prestigious Gold Conservation Award for protecting the natural environment.
