Walk this Way
Scotland’s fifth national long distance route, The Kintyre Way, will officially open on 12 August. Instigated by the Kintyre Tourism Management Planning Group back in 2000, the waymarked route will criss-cross from Tarbert at the north end of the peninsula to Southend in the south.
Eight-nine miles long, and with four to seven days' worth of walking, the Kintyre Way combines serious hiking with gentle rambles, ensuring that walkers of all levels can enjoy the peninsula's stunning scenery, coastline, heritage and wildlife.
An estimated 4,000 walkers will complete the whole route each year, with significant usage also from short distance, local or day trip walkers.
"The opening of The Kintyre Way will be a truly momentous day," said Colin Hossack of the Forestry Commission. "The Kintyre Peninsula is one of Scotland's most unexplored areas, offering spectacular scenery, beautiful coastline and outstanding heritage. We are enormously grateful in particular to the private landowners for their participation, without whom the launch of The Kintyre Way would simply not be possible."
