Vango tent firm taken over by bosses

cf9c3263-5a11-456a-97ce-c80d2d03d1c3

Leading tent manufacturer Vango has been bought out by its senior management team

Following the deal, Scottish-based AMG Group, which owns the Force Ten and Lichfield brands, as well as Vango, will now be run by directors Stephen Newlands, Steve Craig and Glenn Andrews.

The company, one of the major players in the UK outdoor market, had been owned by the Moodie family for almost 50 years.

Founded in Glasgow in 1966, in recent years Vango has enjoyed big success with its innovative AirBeam range of inflatable tents.

Sandy Moodie said he was "delighted" to hand over full control to the management buyout team.

He said: “Stephen, Steve and Glenn have been the driving force behind our business for many years.  They have the energy and enthusiasm to take the business to new heights and it is fitting that they should benefit from their very significant contributions.”

Mr Moodie will remain a director of AMG and will retain a minority shareholding in the company.

Managing director, Stephen Newlands, said: “We are all extremely excited to be taking over the reins at AMG.  Innovation, service and commitment to our customers is at the heart of everything we do.  We aim to make the great outdoors accessible to all, from family campers to extreme mountaineers.”

AMG also distributes Rossignol winter sports equipment, Asolo footwear, Trangia camping stoves, Wayfayrer camping foods and a new, gel based bio fuel known as Fuel4.

AMG Services Division, which services and repairs all brands of tent and is the only business of its kind still left in the UK, is also included in the deal.
