Try a National Trail

b46ac4ac-f126-466a-a3d3-b6c1117d3c64
The Countryside Agency has launched a series of one-day walks aimed at getting people to try out parts of the five Northern National Trails. Each of the do-in-a-day walks is contained in a special ‘Try a Trail’ pack based on the Yorkshire Wolds Way, Hadrian’s Wall Path, Cleveland Way, Pennine Bridleway, and Pennine Way.

Walks leaflets are titled Thixendale Round (8 miles on the Yorkshire Wolds Way), Housesteads to Cawfields (6 miles on Hadrian’s Wall Path), Ravenscar Round (6 miles on the Cleveland Way), Settle Loop (10 miles on the Pennine Bridleway) and Kirk Yetholm Round (8.5 miles on the Pennine Way).

There is also a chance to win a week-long walking holiday, as on each 'Try a Trail' walk leaflet there is a Trail Teaser photograph and accompanying question. Answers can be submitted to the Countryside Agency as part of the promotion, which runs until 30 November.

Steve Westwood, Pennine Way National Trails officer, told Camping: “National Trails provide a natural fix for the stresses of everyday life. These five specially chosen walks offer some of the best countryside cures ever. On each walk we have kept the distance to between six and ten miles, allowing people plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely pace and take in what is around them.

“Each walk has been planned to give a taste of what the full length trail has to offer. They are all easy to follow using the map and written instructions, and are well signposted along the way.”

‘Try a Trail’ packs are available from www.nationaltrail.co.uk and the National Trails Officer, c/o North York Moors National Park Authority, Bondgate, Helmsley, York YO62 5BP, telephone 01439 770657.
