The Original Muck Boot Company Edgewater Classic ankle boots review

Daniel Attwood, Head of Content, tests out The Original Muck Boot Company Edgewater Classic ankle boots

These are 100% waterproof slip-on ankle boots (or booties, if you prefer) that are – apparently – designed to go “hunting, wading, stomping, slushing or walking for miles”.

Well, I’ll never go hunting, I’ll give wading a miss as they’re only ankle-high and I don’t really know what slushing with boots on involves, but I’ll definitely walk for miles and I might do a bit of stomping along the way.

Actually, I’ve been wearing these in all sorts of weather and across all sorts of terrains, from short 15-minute walks to long five-hour, 11-mile romps and I haven’t yet found any serious fault with them. The only problem I have is mine are a size nine but are slightly oversized so I’d try before you buy or, if you can’t, then go for a size smaller.

They actually do allow my feet to breathe and have kept them bone dry, too. Best of all, they’re so easy and quick to get on and off (there’s even a handy extension to the back heel so you can use one foot to prise the boot off the other, which is perfect for slipping on when you need to plod across the site).

Normally, with laceless boots, they are – or soon become – too loose for medium or long walks, but not these; they seem to grip feet quite tightly, which might be something to do with the sandwich mesh lining or the “bioDEWIX Dry Footbed Insert Topcover with NZYM for odour controldor Control and moisture management”, whatever that is. I love them already.

They have a double heel and built-in toe protectors, too, and, apparently, the outsoles (the soles to you and me) are self-cleaning but I’d take that with a pinch of salt as mine are filthy. They’re unisex, too, and come, like the Model T Ford, in a choice of black, from size four to 14.

With an RRP of £130, they’re not cheap, but shop around as we’ve seen them for less, and if you sign up to Muck Boots’ enewsletters you get 15% off.
