Surf's up for Club

The UK's most prestigious surfing event is to be supported by one of the country's major campsite operators.

The National Surf Championships take place over the weekend of 8 and 9 November at the world-famous Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall.

And for the first time the Caravan Club is backing one of the events - the Men's Open Division.

Many surfers stay in tents, campervans and caravans ahead of competitions and the Club hopes they will take advantgage of their network of sites.

Tony Hall, marketing director of the Caravan Club, said: "Supporting the UK highest profile surfing event is a great way of connecting with those audiences that share our passion for the great outdoors, and whilst we know that surfers of all abilities are no strangers to the benefits of caravanning and motorhomes, a Caravan Club site can provide something far more than just a place to stay near some of their favourite beaches – safe, affordable, flexible accommodation with high-standard facilities, and importantly, a warm welcome from our site staff.”

Nick Rees, operations manager for the British National Surf Championships, welcomed the Club's involvement.

He said: “Surfing GB are proud and excited to see the Caravan Club’s inclusion in our upcoming National Surfing Championships. The link between the two is obvious -caravanning is an enabler to the sport. The Men’s Open title is the most sought after in British surfing and with the fantastic support of the Caravan Club we are able to see the elite of British Surfing battle out for the glory and a host of prizes, including a week’s holiday.”

The Club has around 200 main sites (including around 40 that accept tents) and over 2500 Certified Locations - small, privately owned sites, reserved exclusively for Caravan Club members - many within striking distance of some of the UKs most popular surfing beaches.
