The hot summer weather has seen a huge increase in the number of people taking camping holidays.
Bookings at Camping and Caravanning Club sites have rocketed by more than 50% this year while some independent sites say they’re fully booked until September. The Club said it has seen a large increase in the number of families planning a holiday in the great outdoors this summer.
Family bookings are up a massive 58% for August compared to the same time in 2012, and with more good weather promised, club bosses hope the trend will continue.
Director general Robert Louden said: “Camping and caravanning continues to be en vogue, with the recent good weather bringing holidaymakers out in their thousands.
"Despite the camping and caravanning boom, there are pitches still available giving everyone the chance to explore the great outdoors this summer."
Meanwhile the good weather has meant a boom in bookings around the country. Thistledown, an environmental campsite and nature reserve near Nympsfield, in Gloucestershire, has had its busiest year since it opened for camping in 2006.
Every weekend from May to September has been fully booked and when the weather has been good it has been busy through the week as well.
The site opened its new farm shop and reception building this summer, offering local produce to campers.
Campsites in the Forest of Dean are also seeing a rise in bookings, according to the Citizen newspaper. Bracelands near Coleford has seen a surge in demand in 2013.
