New outdoor gear set gold standard

Seven brand new products aimed at people who love the outdoors have been given prestigious gold awards.

Judges chose the winning items of gear – including jackets, footwear and backpacks – for their “outstanding” innovation and quality.

The gold awards were announced during the prize ceremony for the Outdoor Industry Awards at the OutDoor trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

A total of 35 products received awards – with seven being identified as the cream of the new gear.

Among the gold winners was the HyperSmock 2.0 jacket by British firm Berghaus. At just 76g, the company reckon it is the world’s lightest waterproof jacket. Judges praised the jacket’s fit and hood design, as well as its light weight.

Another jacket to win a gold award was the Fuseform Originator from The North Face, which uses an innovative new construction trechnique to weave different fabrics into different parts of the jacket without adding extra seams.

Osprey’s new Atmos AG 65 backpack was another of the gold award winners, winning the judges’ praise for its unique suspended AntiGravity back-system and the world’s first fully ventilated hipbelt.

Winter Gas by Primus, Speed Ascent shoes by Salewa, Toray’s 100% plant-based polyester fabric, and the Alpha FL men’s approach shoe by Arc’teryx were the other four gold winners.
