Fun in the sun at the Big Camp 2013

Hundreds of happy campers had fun in the sun at Camping magazine’s Big Camp event.

Kelling Heath holiday park in Norfolk was the venue for our first ever gathering of campers – and the event was a huge success.

The sun shone throughout the weekend, allowing everyone to make the most of all the fabulous events and facilities on offer at the award-winning site.

The fun started on Friday night with Crazy Banana the clown, who showed off her balloon and circus skills. On Saturday  Guyrope Gourmet Josh Sutton demonstrated some campsite cooking techniques – rustling up luxury camping fare like scrambled eggs and salmon for breakfast and a lunchtime paella.

Tent manufacturers Coleman hosted a family games day on the campsite’s sports field, featuring tent pitching races and sleeping bag races. And dozens of lucky winners went home with prizes ranging from huge family tents to the latest high-tech lanterns.

And on the Saturday night there was a family party night at Kelling’s Forge and Terrace pub – including live music.

Sunday was prize-giving day for the winners of our Dress Your Tent competition.

Campers also took part in various events throughout the weekend, including the farmers’ market, falconry, craft-making and wildlife rambles and they were also able to take advantage of discounted tickets on the fabulous North Norfolk steam railway.

Camping editor Iain Duff said: “Everyone we spoke to had a fantastic time – the smiles on the faces of the campers we met during the weekend told its own story. I’d also like to give a special thanks to everyone who took part in the seaside themed Dress Your Tent competition. All the entries were fantastic and everyone made a massive effort. It genuinely was really difficult to choose a winner.”
