Decade of great tents

6943cbbb-2432-40a7-a1aa-1c668f37a4e5
HAPPY birthday, Oase. The Danish company launched its Outwell brand into the UK ten years ago this month – and quickly went on to capture the imagination of British family campers. Camping was quick to recognise the brand and published the first Outwell tent test report that year.

Despite the company being recognised by the trade as the country’s leading innovator of family tents, the popularity of Outwell has put the Oase name in the shade. Its complete lifestyle approach to selling the family camping idyll, backed by well-designed products, has made a deep impact on the UK camper, and the company’s ethos has led to a massive infiltration into the UK marketplace in a very short time.

Besides appreciating major design firsts like rain-safe doors, the Space Frame System, the Extended Frame System and the kids’ bedrooms, the public has also been wooed by neat touches, including carpets and mats.

It should not be forgotten that Oase also manufactures the budget Easy Camp range and the technical Robens tents. Camping gave Easy Camp its first outing in the UK press when it published the Kos 4 in a group test in October 2000, and declared it a personal favourite. The brands have seldom failed to impress in subsequent tests.

See this month’s Tent Supplement 2009 for the latest news on Oase tents, or visit outwell.co.uk To celebrate its 10th birthday, Oase is offering one lucky Camping reader the chance to win Outwell’s latest Arkansas 5 tent, worth £600, from its flagship Avantgarde range.
