Businessman donates £5000 after Guides' tents stolen

A big-hearted businessman has come to the rescue of a Girl Guide group whose camping equipment was stolen.

The youngsters in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire were devastated when thieves made off with 24 tents, plus gas cookers and two gazebos worth £5,000

But an anonymous businessman has now stepped in and donated £5,000 to replace the stolen gear.

The Grimsby Telegraph reported that leaders of the 80-strong 1st Cleethorpes and 2nd Humberston Guides were forced to cancel a camping trip after the thieves struck.

But the paper said a semi-retired businessman, had been in touch and donated the money after reading about the theft.

He told the paper: “I want to replace everything because I am absolutely livid about what has happened. If I can put a smile back on these kids' faces, then it will make my day.I thought it was deplorable and thought I had to do something."

Girl Guides divisional commissioner Allison Wood said she was "gob-smacked” by the donation.

She told the paper: “It flies in the face of people who have no morals whatsoever. It shows there are some great people out there.”
