INTEREST in camping and caravanning holidays has increased during the summer despite the poor weather, a study out today has shown.Research by search engine and online advertising site Yell.com shows how searches for “camping” and “caravanning” have increased by 13% in the last year.
It also found that the most popular camping destination is Hampshire, with Glasgow, Bristol, Essex and Dorset also featuring in the top five.
The biggest inquiries came from people living in London but the pastime also appears popular with those in Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and Milton Keynes.
Alicia Andrews of Yell.com said: “Our site data clearly shows camping is more popular than ever and it would seem that the desire for an outdoor life is gripping the UK’s population.”
A spokesman for the Camping and Caravanning Club said: “We have seen a big rise in interest over the past 12 months – the pressures of modern living seem to be giving people a thirst for the great outdoors.”
