Trevella Holiday Park, Cornwall

e97b740e-6268-418b-b910-a849d2af99d6
Trevella, at the height of summer, is a floral showpiece groomed to perfection to create a splendid array.

The site itself occupies 26 acres with separate fields to create an intimate small-site feel. The campsite pitches are terraced and level, on a gently sloping field that reaches down to this site’s star attraction: a complex of fishing lakes. The floral fantasy doesn’t stop at the shores of the lakes – there are lilies in the water and an island between the lakes where wildflowers are encouraged and nature-trail pathways are mown through the foliage.

There are also a variety of holiday homes available for hire. Four levels of holiday home are offered, from the well-equipped original range up to top-of-the-range superior models. All are fully equipped with fridge, cooker, microwave, cutlery etc and bed linen is included. Parking is also available next to your holiday home. Some of the homes have been adapted to accessible for all and pets are allowed in the holiday homes.

You can also buy your own holiday home at Trevella if you wish. It is a great way to get the best from the parkland and stunning Cornish countryside. You choose which of the available pitches you prefer and then select which new or pre-owned holiday home suits your needs and they will put the two together for you.

New for 2012 is the option of a glamping holiday. For families who crave the adventure of camping but without the hassle of putting up a tent, this kind of holiday can be the perfect answer. Ready Tents, Safari Tents, Teepees and bell tents are all available to hire.

In terms of things to do, the whole family is catered for here – fishing, adventure playground, crazy golf, pets corner that’s home to rabbits, games room, television room – but in a quiet manner. Three separate buildings house the showers, laundry and washing-up arrangements which match the high quality of the first impressions of this site. Also, if you arrive too late in an evening to check in at the office, you can park in the late arrival area.

The views from Trevella extend out over a patchwork of fields towards St Austell. The site was established almost 50 years ago. It has acquired five stars and a gold David Bellamy award for the last eight years.

Even though Trevella has a wonderful remote appeal you don’t have to drive every time you leave the site. Crantock beach is only a 20-minute walk away and surfing is available here. You can also take a walk to the River Gannel which is also 20 minutes away on foot. Of particular appeal to motorhomers who want to leave their unit on site – there’s a bus service from outside the gate of the site and Newquay is little over two miles away.

Convenience exists, too, in the form of the site’s shop. Freshly baked croissants and baguettes give it a continental flavour alongside Cornish produce, pasties and camping gear. And there’s wine and beer on chill, too, perfect for picnics by the lake…

For us, the biggest appeal of Trevella is that enticing, picturesque lake. You don’t have to immerse yourself in the focus of fishing to find this a delightful place. Sit on the banks by the lake and sunbathe. The only sound is a stream running from the lake to the River Gannel.

Down a maze of car-width lanes, punctuated by the occasional pretty white cottage, like us, you'll find something approaching floral holiday park perfection.

It’s worth noting that Sat Nav guidance to the site is best ignored, taking you down some narrow lanes. Follow the guidance on their website and you’ll have no problems. Trevella is, in fact, very easy to find - it’s off the A3075, follow the signs for Crantock, off the A392 (the site is signed from Crantock).
